Files backup or recovery

I have unintentionally deleted all of my files from my wordpress page by deleting them from the multimedia library and now they are gone from every single post I had on my page as well. I did not know this would happen and know I am wondering if there is a way to get the files back or if wordpress has a backup of my website and maybe it would be possible to reestablish my page to a past state or anything similar that may help me.
Please please I need your help

If you mean you’ve deleted images from your Media Library, then, unlike posts which go into the trash first , images once deleted are gone for good and WordPress.com staff cannot recover them. Images need to stay in the Media Library if they are to be visible in individual posts. Hopefully you have your own backups, but those images will need to be restored on a post-by-post basis.

Fortunately, I am not in the situation described above. However, I had assumed that WordPress-hosted sites are completely backed up on WordPress’ servers. Apparently, they’re not. Since it would be disastrous for me to lose what’s on my site, how can I back it up myself? Thanks.

WordPress.com sites are safely stored on multiple servers but if you delete images from your Media Library yourself then they are gone from those servers for good. You can always make your own regular backup (“Settings” “Export”) and keep the resulting .xml file for your own peace of mind.

If I make my own backup by exporting as you say, will that backup the Media Library? If not is there another way to back that up? Also, would the site be easy to reconstruct from a self-made backup via Export? Thanks.

As long as you don’t lose your log-in details and there isn’t a third world war and there’s no more electricity I think images are safe on the assorted WordPress.com servers. If you read this:- https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ you’ll see that:-

“The content will be delivered as a series of XML files, which will contain your posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and references to your site’s images”.

It’s the images that take up most of the space so for example if you’re re-creating your WordPress.com site or moving it to .org or somewhere else or even to a BlogBooker pdf file, the images still need to be online, in your Media Library and therefore in the WordPress.com servers to access them if you’re importing an xml file.

If you’re worried about losing your images, you can’t really beat keeping them yourself in the first place. As I edit the filesize of images before I upload them to my site I tend to save the fullsize originals on my laptop.
