Files not found after domain mapping

    Hi,
I’ve searched for this, but couldn’t find anything, so apologies if it has been asked already…

I set up my WordPress.com site and had all my images and music files stored to my own domain’s hosting, and linked to there. Everything was working perfectly, so I then went ahead and purchased domain mapping yesterday and setup Google Apps for my domain email. (Domain mapping & email working perfectly by the way! Love it!)

Today however, I have noticed that the files that I have on my blog are now ‘Not Found’ or getting a 404 Error.

    My own domain is http://www.djhix.com.
I would like all my files and music etc. to use the same domain in their path, so I use my FTP client and host all my files on my actual domain.
So for example, if I have audio on my page, I want its path to say http://www.djhix.com/mysong.mp3. (And it did say this, until I set up domain mapping)

However, because http://www.djhix.com now re-directs to http://djhix.com (i.e. drops the “www”) due to WordPress Domain Mapping, it seems that if I have a file on my host server, it can’t find it.

ANYWAY, I hope I’m making sense… my music page on my blog is here: http://djhix.com/music/rehix/

Take the first audio file for example. Until I initiated Domain Mapping, it was playing in the little player, and was downloadable. Now, it can’t be found, and it seems to me it’s because the file it’s trying to find,
    http://www.djhix.com/remixes/ReHix_Flo-Rida-vs-Enur—Calabri-Low_(DJ-Hix-Remix)(clean).mp3
is instantly dropping the “www”, and therefore not finding it.

I’ve checked on my own server, and the files are still there in the same directory they always were, so the paths are should work.
And I know I could use the Media Library, but if I do, the files have a WordPress domain, and I don’t want that, seeing as I paid for Domain mapping.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can link to files on my own host?
Or if I MUST use media library, how can I do it so that my files don’t have WordPress in their address?

Hmm – as I read this, your issue makes sense. The mapping of the domain is making the real domain invisible. My suggestion would be to map a subdomain instead of the domain, ie, blog.djhix.com, which leaves the nameservers for the domain where they belong and only changes the information for the subdomain. That way, the files would work.

Thank you for your suggestion Vivian.
Yep, that would work, but I don’t really want to do that, because I’m using this as my actual website as well as my blog, which you will have probably noticed from looking at it.

So I’m afraid I really do need http://www.djhix.com to be mapped, rather than a subdomain of it, if you know what I mean?

Thank you for the suggestion anyway.
Would there be any other solutions/workarounds to my situation?

And I know I could use the Media Library, but if I do, the files have a WordPress domain, and I don’t want that, seeing as I paid for Domain mapping. Is there even a way around this?

If I were you, I would contact staff. ALL files uploaded here have “wordpress” in their file URL’s as a matter of policy. No way around it if you upload them to here.

I can’t think of any other solution (short of installing & running the WP software on your host). There really is no way (that I’m aware of) to have the domain point to two places simultaneously, which is what you are trying to do. Contact support and see what they say.
