Files still available on search engines after deleted wrodpress blog
-
This gonna be kinda long….
I deleted my wordpress and some of the downloadable files can still be accessed by searching them on google. I want everything gone. How do I do this? I tried to delete it from the website and I did, but it still shows up. Then I figured if I deleted the whole wordpress site it would knock it out, but apparently it didn’t. I’m not a blogger anyways and don’t mind letting go of my work. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

Hi there,
What are the file URLs please? It can take up to 3 days for them to be removed form WordPress.COM servers so they produce a 404 page not found.IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content does not remove it from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months. To completely remove an entire page from Google search results: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en

Thanks for the swift reply!
It’s only one and it’s a .pdf
I just found the google webmaster thingy…….and requested the url removal.
Thanks

It’s producing a 404 and you did the right thing by requesting URL removal via Google. :)
-
It did show a 404 for you? Thanks for your help. I went to another computer to click on it the link and it didn’t 404 for me. I’m very new to this stuff. Sorry I’m if annoying

Yes I do get: 404 — File not found.
Try clearing your browser cache as you are probably viewing a cached copy http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

I followed the instructions and the cleared my cache. I still keep getting it. Google denied my request by the way………..at least you’re getting a 404. I hope everyone else is too. Thanks again for your help.

Hi!
I’m getting a 404 at the following URL as well:
It should be 404ing on your side by now as well. Can you confirm?
-
I just visited the link. It sill appears. No 404 for me, or any computer in my area. I cleared my google cache.
-
Can you try in another browser? It’s still 404’ing for me in all browsers so it sounds like this is indeed some sort of cache issue.
-
Ok. I downloaded and tried many different browsers. It still appears. I just sent the link to my brother, and he checked it on his phone. It appeared then too.
-
I just re-requested a link removal from google search results. Maybe it won’t be denied this time. Thanks for your help and mainly your patience.

That’s odd – I would think it would be gone everywhere by now. I just submitted another request to clear our file cache of this file. Hopefully that helps to speed up the process!

Hey guys,
It still comes up for me. At this point I’m over it lol Thanks for your help! I requested that google remove the page from the search results and it was approved. I feel relieved that it’s not accessible anymore through searching it. Thanks again!

I just ran a disk diagnostic and 2.14 gigs of cached stuff showed. I deleted it, and the link now shows a 404. Mission accomplished. Thanks for your time guys.
