Cant seem to upload a plugin…do you have to be regisered for extra space with your domain
in order for the server to allow uploads? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are talking about a wordpress.COM blog such as this one, http://shadowfax1.wordpress.com/ , then we have no FTP access and we cannot use plugins. Plugins are exclusively for self-hosted blogs: http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/ .

See this support document for the differences between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG blogs.

So in other words I have to register a subscription in order to benefit from .org or find another server…please excuse my ignorance..very much a newbie..oh and thanxs for your help.

To be able to use plugins, you have to self-host a blog as a third-party host such as dreamhost, or godaddy, or bluehost, or somewhere like that.
You would need to register a domain name, secure a hosting package, install and configure the wordpress software. Figure a total average cost of $10 to $25 per month depending on your bandwidth and storage requirements. You are then responsible for all installations, all backups, all upgrades and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure out what went wrong and fix it yourself.
