Finding a theme
-
Is there any way to find out what theme another site is using if it doesn’t list it on the page. I like the look of a certain website and found that it uses WordPress. I can right click on the page and under ‘view page info’ it shows the generator as wordpress 3.2.1, then under ‘view source’ I found this at the bottom of the page — Performance optimized by W3 Total Cache. …Nothing about the theme, just a plugin. I want to copy a certain site, -Not really copy it, I’ll have my own subject, content and market/target audience, completely different topics etc. I just like the way the site looks and want to make mine look similar. I wouldn’t expect an answer if I just email and ask, sure they’d think I’d be competition and wouldn’t want to reveal sources. It’s probably a premium theme. Any other way to find out?

That tells me the site is not hosted at WP.com but is an independently-hosted site. That means you can’t use the theme on a blog here.

It has it’s own domain name, whois shows registered through GoDaddy, not sure if they host the site. Think they’d tell me what theme is used on someone elses site?

How do you know it’s not a wordpress.com blog? I see many ‘freshly pressed’ blogs on wordpress.com that have their own domain name instead of name.wordpress. Is wordpress 3.2.1 different? or the w3 plugin not able to be used on wordpress.com?

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins or third party themes into them. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

wordpress 3.2.1 is WordPress.ORG, not WordPress.COM.
No plugins or external themes can be used on WordPress.COM.

The blogs you are seeing on their own domains like mine are all being free hosted by WordPress.com. No WordPress.org installs are part of the free hosted by WordPress.com community and that means they do not appear in Freshly Pressed.

To answer your actual question: you view the sourcecode of the site and search for “content/themes”.
