Finding an optimised theme with vertical split?
-
Hello everyone
Please have a look at the current design of my site: http://www.laurentlanglais.comI am currently using Customizr.
My new ideas design wise is to organise it around my two main activities. I mostly do Feng Shui & Chinese astrology. So I’d like to eventually keep a top menu but below have a vertical split layout. One side would be “Chinese astrology”, the other one ” Feng Shui”.
The aspects that I am considering are the following:
-of course I’d like it to be optimised for great SEO. Ideally I want to be able to put widgets in the footer.
-I have a blog that is an important part of my site and draw many people in. I am wondering if I should therefore go for 3 sections rather than 2. I am less keen on having 3 and so the other design that I am considering is to have this vertical split and 2 sections, with either a small slider or something extra on the side, on top or below that feature the blog prominently.
-my site relies more on writing than visual. I want to design an image to make this vertical split work with left and rigth side, but beyond that and inside the pages I need a more conventional look.
-inside the site I will still need to feature archives, categories etc. with side widgets most likely.I welcome your suggestion on the ideal theme then. I would of course prefer a free one, but could pay a one off fee. Not too keen on recurring fees every year for a theme.
Thank you!

Hi @laurentlanglais,
I noticed that your site is hosted through a third-party company while this forum is intended for folk who have their sites hosted here at WordPress.com.
The fact that your site is running on the free software available over at WordPress.org may have led you here.
The difference between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and WordPress.org) is an understandable and common point of confusion. If you’re unsure of the differences, then this guide gives a good overview.
Are you planning on moving your site to WordPress.com? If so, we have an awesome range of hand picked themes available in our repository and you can filter based on different criteria along the top:
All of the themes in our repository are built to the highest coding standards and are optimised to make it easy for search engines to discover your content.
Looking over your other requirements: Sela may work out well for you. It includes three widget areas on the home page, which you could use to provide links to further information on Chinese astrology, Feng Shui, and your blog. It also supports sidebar and footer widgets. Goran and Edin may work out for you for similar reasons.
If you don’t plan to host your site through WordPress.com the above themes, as well as the majority of themes in our repository, are also available for download over at WordPress.org. You can search for them here:
In addition, if you plan to host your site outside of WordPress.com then the forums over at WordPress.org are the best place to go with any questions that come up:

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for your answer and indeed I was confused on the forum and need to move this thread on wordpress.org, sorry! As for the 3 themes you suggested they are similar to Customizr and my issue is that I’d like one that helps me design a split image as a front page, with two main section, rather than having options behind a central image…

By a “split image” are you referring to something similar to how the image and main content are split on single posts/page in Bushwick and Dyad?
If not, I recommend searching the WordPress.org theme repository for keywords and phrases to narrow down your search:
The WordPress.org theme repository contains a wider choice of themes than WordPress.com.
