Finding creating my homepage exceedingly difficult, please help!

  • Unknown's avatar

I had previously thought of myself as relatively technically literate but I’m afraid I’m really struggling to make my page look halfway decent, let alone anything even resembling what I want it to look like.

I selected the Dara theme, as the example page shown is exactly what I want; a small amount of text at the top, followed by three link boxes beneath with an image and small amount of text, then a couple of testimonials below. Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me work out how to make my page look anything like this example one. Is there a setting I am missing? All I seem able to do is add clunky boxes that appear one on top of another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

  • Good morning –

No worries, we will help you.

I can see that you have a header image, site title and tagline, and a menu in place. This is a good start.

There’s also an established front page, “Welcome” and a posts page, “Blog”.

All of the changes you’ve mentioned are going to happen when working on that front page. This is the first thing folks see when they come to your site.

Take a look at the theme setup instructions. There’s step-by-step instructions for setting up those features. Have you already seen this? https://wordpress.com/theme/dara

All of the themes on WordPress.com come with set up instructions and a theme demo page. Dara’s is here: https://darademo.wordpress.com/

This should help you get started. Write back with any other questions or needs. We stay close by and are happy to help.

All themes will look empty when you activate. First, try adding some content and then try choosing a theme that works best for you. As above all themes on WordPress.com have instructions. You’re not missing any setting, just some content. Hope this helps a little.
