Finding my blog
-
I need help locating my WordPress blog.
I recently decided to move from DreamHost to Wix so I could use their platform to update my own website. Part of that website was a WordPress blog. The old website was designed and used to be maintained by a web designer who has gone out of business and the WordPress blog was somehow embedded in the old DreamHost website. Since I have zero coding skills so I don’t really understand the process well and there’s no help to be had from the old web designer. When I connected my DNS to Wix, the old website and blog went away. I was expecting that, but when I contacted Wix about getting the WordPress blog back, they said I had to contact WordPress to “locate” the blog. So…help? So I was able to log into WordPress and found that my blog, which had been called Felicia, was listed as feliciastwin. But when I clicked on MySite it told me that I did not have a site yet.
Where do I even begin?

Hi,
It’s true that feliciastwin.wordpress.com doesn’t exist, but it is reserved for the username feliciastwin, that’s you. I’ll call for staff attention for help in explaining and resolving the issues that you’ve described. Staff will respond here.

Hi there,
Can you please let me know your blog’s address so I can have a look? By what you’re describing your blog was probably using the open source WordPress.org software and therefore only your previous hosting provider can help you out.

Sorry, I’m so clueless I replied to this via email a few days back. It bounced, of course.
My address is:

My DreamHost subscription ends May 13.

Thanks feliciastwin. I think I see the issue:
they said I had to contact WordPress to “locate” the blog. So…help?
Our hosting service is separate from Dreamhost’s hosting service. We actually don’t have access to their servers. The WordPress you’re using is just free software and not a service you con contact. It’s like the difference between a restaurant and a recipe.
But you do still have a service provider. And they might be able to help you regain access to the installation though. Have you tried contacting them? You can share this link with them too if it helps, from the site about the free software:

Thank you. I’m beginning to think that I’m about to lose years worth of work because I’ve signed up with a different service provider. I have a complete backup but it will take ages to recreate everything.
I’ll contact DreamHost.
