Finding other WordPress blogs with similar interests

I’ve been trying to locate other WordPress blogs/sites/users with similar interests as my blog. I’ve been using the ‘Search WordPress’ box at the top right of the screen, and have had surprisingly little luck finding other similar sites. My main interest is wildlife/professional environmental education and I ‘know’ there must be sites out there, but the closest I’ve found are a few posts about going on an educational camp out, or a specific school program, or photos of wildlife that people have posted. Also many sites about green living and personal environmental actions, but nothing about the environmental education profession, outdoors learning, etc. Is there a better way I can search for WordPress sites and users with similar intersts?

Try using global tags.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/Click on the tags below (or above, depending on the theme) to find others who use the same tags you are using.
I am assuming that you tag your posts with environmental education profession, outdoors learning, and other topics you write about. That is how others will also find your blog, including major search engines.

Thanks for the excellent information…..actually I hadn’t started using tags as I wasn’t certain what they were, or how important they are! I quickly assigned tags to all my posts earlier this evening! Is there an optimum number of tags to use for each post? I’m not referring to dozens, but maybe five or six. Too little? Too many?
