Finding out owners of a wordpress site
-
What does it mean if you go to a wordpress site and it says “[sitename] not found. The address [sitename].wordpress.com cannot be registered. Sorry, that site is reserved! “
What does reserved mean?
How do I identify the sites owner to see if they are still using address?
-
Hi @abaren,
What is the domain you are trying to register?
When you create a user account with WordPress.com, that username is automatically reserved in the form of a .wordpress.com blog.
For example, If I registered abc123 as my username, WordPress.com will reserve abc123.wordpress.com for me, and only I would be able to use that blog address.
If you are able to get in touch with the owner of the blog, via their contact form or comments, then you can see if they’d be willing to transfer the domain to you. Here’s how you do that: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Very helpful into what “reserved” means. What if there is no contact information or comments on the site. Can WordPress help you send a message to the owner?
Otherwise, if not used, it just becomes a waste blog name.

You will only be able to get in touch with them via the comments on their site or a contact form and/or email address listed on their site. Staff isn’t able to help you find contact information, or message them on your behalf. Sorry.
