Finding out the WHOIS and IP of an impostor who used WordPress.com

    Make Google alerts for your name & website url & website name. The names without spaces. And your name the normal way but with quotes ” ” around them to keep the search words together:

    >> MyName
    >> “My Name”

    This way to keep a track of some of the things being said about you.

    Where it says Type, I keep it at Comprehensive. http://www.google.com/alerts

    I’m sorry about my comment on being less important. I guess it just feels that way because I’m panicking and scared.

    Also, I have contacted James Lee of http://jronaldlee.com and notified him of the fake poster. He believes me and has taken down the comment from the fake poster. It’s a small piece of the silver lining but I really do believe that because I am telling the truth, sooner or later, people will believe me. And maybe WordPress will believe me too.

    I will take your advice about making a page on my blog to advertise my real blogs but I’m not going to talk about or link to the fake blog anymore because that’s what this crazy person wants. To be more popular in the search engines and to get a reaction out of me. So I’ve decided not to converse with him anymore and will just focus on promoting my own work as an artist without mentioning about this situation.

    I’m wondering though if I can already take out the original content in my Tumblr from where this person stole the information for his About Page in his fake blog because I have personal information there such as where I study and where I work and since this is already a security issue, I just want to lessen the possibilities of attracting more trouble. I’m just worried that WordPress won’t believe me if I remove the original content.

    Thank you so much for all your help. Believe me when I say that this is making me feel a whole lot better, knowing what to do because I just felt so defenseless because I didn’t know what my options were.

    I’ve started on Google Alerts and will add some more keywords based on your tip.

    Thank you so much, again and again.

    You’re welcome. Just take a deep breath and try not getting paranoid over things. I speak from experience. The only thing keeping me sane is they don’t know who I really am in the real world.

    @pornstarbabylon

    Sadly, I can’t say the same for myself. They know what I look like, my name, where I work, where I study. I have learned my lesson about being so visible on the Internet the hard way and now I have to learn how to back away and let go.

    I wish I won’t have to feel paranoid or feel that I have to hide from people forever. It’s just scary that when I go out, this person who’s trying to ruin me or the people they’ve convinced will recognize me and hurt me for real. Or worse, they go after my loved ones. I really want to spare them from all that more than anything.

    And I’m sorry if I’m just letting this out here. Talking to you has made me feel better and I’ve learned a lot of ways to try and fix this problem. If I find this person, then great. If I don’t, I can just work on getting his fake blog deleted. But if even that doesn’t work in my favor then I guess I’ll just have to make sure his fake blog gets buried so deep in search engines that no one will find it.

    @lorra
    IMHO posting here at all was a bad move that fed the troll and continuing to post to it now is feeding the troll.

    You do know that this is a public forum, right? And you do know the troll is getting what it wants because you posted here and it’s watching you, right?

    If I were you I would be asking worpress.com Staff support to delete all the links in this thread and then lock it. Then the troll could not see what I was doing and would not be getting off on my discomfort.

    Starve the troll!

    @timethief

    I think I just didn’t know where else to turn to. I guess I was just digging my own grave to begin with.

    But also, how can I ask the WordPress staff to delete links and lock this thread? They won’t reply to me.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ask them here and now to remove all the links so the troll blog does not get hits, and to close the thread because you believe continuing to post to it is not in your best interest, nor in wordpress’s best interest. They may say “yes”. They may say “no” but you won’t know until you ask.

    Snap! I forgot to say – failure to engage is a powerful tool. You could stop dwelling on this topic in your blog here or elsewhere. You didn’t really want the blog here at wordpress.com so making it “private” is no big deal. Chanfe the visibility and ignore, ignore , ignore the ignorant troll.

    I guess this is going to be the last post for this thread because I’m following timethief’s advice and I’m asking, pleading for the WordPress staff to just delete all the links in this thread especially the ones for the fake blog and to lock this thread off.

    I feel that posting here was a bad idea because it potentially gives the troll more power against me and thus compromising my security even more.

    Thank you to everyone who gave me advice and tips and I hope that the WordPress staff decides to grant me my plea.

    I’ve edited the links and removed the modlook tag, as you’ve gotten in touch with TOS.
