Finding WordPress Plan and deleting old websites

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!
I am having difficulty locating which plan I am currently using for my site http://www.wellnessman.co.uk. Because I have multiple websites with one e-mail address I am automatically logged into my old website – tndotj.wordpress.com – which I no longer wish to use, but I am wary of deleting though in case I end up deleting both websites. Because of this, I am struggling to locate the relevant data for wellnessman.co.uk. Sorry if this is super confusing, but I have been trying to sort it out for hours and failing!

    Thanks
    Thomas

    Hey hi hello!

Firstly, you can check your plan by going to https://wordpress.com/plans/my-plan.
If that doesn’t work, go to your dashboard (click “My Site” at the top left), and then click “Upgrades” which will be near the top of the sidebar.

That said, so you’re trying to delete your old website tndotj.wordpress.com, and you’re concerned about accidentally deleting http://www.wellnessman.co.uk because they use the same e-mail address. Is that correct?

If so, you can delete your older website tndotj.wordpress.com by following the instructions at https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/.

Your other website will not be affected as long as you follow the steps above – especially because they’re using different web hosting providers, meaning the files and data (and the access to them) are all separate.

If you’d find it more reassuring, I’ve expanded below:
Your website http://www.wellnessman.co.uk is registered with GoDaddy, which is a web host that uses the free and open-source software “WordPress”. In short, the website’s files and data are hosted at GoDaddy, and built with the WordPress software.

Conversely, your older website tndotj.wordpress.com and its data is under “wordpress.com”, a managed hosting provider of the “WordPress” software. This is also why you can only see your older website while you’re here at wordpress.com!

Thus, while you’re at wordpress.com, you can’t accidentally delete http://www.wellnessman.co.uk, as there is not access to it. So you’re good to go with deleting your old website!

To make an analogy, as one last assurance, there are two streets – GoDaddy street and WordPress.com street.

In GoDaddy street is the house http://www.wellnessman.co.uk. To make any modifications to said house, you would have to be at GoDaddy street.

Over here is WordPress.com street, your old house https://tndotj.wordpress.com/ can be found. Being at WordPress.com street, you can only affect https://tndotj.wordpress.com/, as there is no access to the house at GoDaddy.

If you’re still worried, you can always make a backup of your GoDaddy website before proceeding.

I hope this helps you. If not, let me know and we’ll make this work!
