Finishing up registering

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to finish my setup steps in WordPress. It asks me to type in the domain- when I type in the domain, I type in the domain that WordPress gave me a couple days ago (and I am currently using)but it says that I cannot use one because someone is already using. It is me! I am the one using it. How can I get past this step?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi sandys5,

it says that I cannot use one because someone is already using. It is me!

Can you confirm which domain you wish to use on slblog.home.blog? Once I know for sure, I can look at what is happening.

    Thanks!

HI! Thank you for trying to help me with this issue. On March 26th when I attempted to setup my blog, I thought I had everything done and I got this email from WordPress:
    “Welcome to the WordPress.com family!
Congratulations, your new site, slbloghome.wordpress.com, is up and running!

This email has everything you need, including links to several videos and guides, to help you get started. (there was more ….)

Then I got another post from WordPress telling me that I needed to finish up setting up my blog.

At the top of my blog it states: http://slblog.home.blog and I have been updating my site and getting responses from individuals and people visiting my site.

I had my husband log into both accounts and the first one (wordpress.com) took him to the second one.

I am so confused. Please help me! Thank you so much!!

  • Hi sandys5, I think I understand. You wanted the site address to be https://slblog.home.blog correct?

When I go to https://slbloghome.wordpress.com it redirects to that, as it should. Is that what you’re seeing there, too?

It should be one site with a customized home.blog address.

Yes, I’m confused. I’m fine with both addresses going to the same blog if that is what they’re supposed to do. I just thought when it gave me options of free addresses to use and I picked “slblob.home.blog” that would be my log in with “wordpress.com” tagged on the end of it. I didn’t realize it would create a new condensed version of the title I picked.
So when it asks me to finish registering, what actually do I type in as my domain? The longer title or the condensed title? I believed I tried the .blog version and the website told me that I could not use that one as someone is currently using it.

    Hi sandys5,

I’m fine with both addresses going to the same blog if that is what they’re supposed to do.

It is, yes. Visitors to your site will only see slblog.home.blog in their browsers address bar. You will only see slbloghome.wordpress.com in the “back end” — like account pages.

So when it asks me to finish registering, what actually do I type in as my domain?

Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean here :) What is the exact message you are seeing and on which page?

When I was setting up the page, I went under My Site – Plan – (left side) and there on the right side is the Domains heading (right side) under the second tab – Add Domain and I was under the impression that I had to get a domain and enter it here.

This is where my confusion all began.

I am glad that I found out about the back end and front end address though, as that clears up what I was seeing and wondering about (thank you!)
