Firefox 4 messed up blog format

  • Unknown's avatar

    I just upgraded to Firefox 4 from my blog’s dashboard. The theme I use is MistyLook, and with the new Firefox, the background behind my blog posts is grey and half my widgets are under the blog posts instead of in the sidebar. Can anything be done to fix this and make it look like it did before?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I just opened it in IE and it looks the same there. But then IE has always shown the widgets underneath rather than in the sidebar.

    It’s the same on Chrome as well. Do you have CSS upgrade? Maybe you changed something.

    @barbarah
    Did you copy and paste into your latest post? Please try this> Go to settings > Writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “Save Changes.”

    Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal. If not, open the next post and do the same thing until it goes back to normal.

    Thanks, timethief. I did adjust the setting you mentioned and have been adjusting and updating the first few pages of posts, but no change yet. I’ll keep on with that a bit at a time.

    I did notice the grey behind the posts corresponds to the grey behind the widgets — the white line separating widgets runs straight across the whole blog. So I did some adjusting and updating in those, too, at least the ones where I had put in text, but that didn’t seem to affect anything, either.

    noirciplume, no, I don’t have CSS upgrade. The only thing I changed was going to Firefox 4. It has not been a positive experience so far — not only is my blog messed up, but it doesn’t support Delicious or some other things I had in my tool bar.

    @barbarah
    I have seen your blog and I am using Firefox 4.0. and IE8. I do not think this is a browser issue. It’s more likely to be a result of copying and pasting an having an open HTML tag or corrupt HTML. I believe your blog needs Staff intervention to be rectified. Please file a support ticket here http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    I just filed a support ticket. What you’re saying makes sense — I just don’t understand why everything was ok before the Firefox upgrade and messed up afterward if it’s an HTML problem. But hopefully staff can help.

    Hello again,
    When you type a web page address such as http://barbarah.wordpress.com/ into your top browser bar that web page in its entirety is not actually stored on a server ready and waiting to be delivered. In fact each web page that you request is individually created in response to your browser’s request.

    You are actually having the browser call up a list of requests to get content from various resource directories or servers on which the content for that page is stored.

    I have known bloggers who had blithely copied and pasted stuff into posts that had no negative effects on their blogs for ages. Then when Staff updated their theme the issues did make themselves evident. Every open HTML tag and every corrupt invalid HTML caused their blog’s appearance to distort.

    Staff will undoubtedly be able to help but it’s the weekend and they are very busy so it may take some time for them to get to your support ticket. Please be patient while your wait.
