Firefox 91 & WordPress.com do not play nice on a Mac

    I made the mistake of updating Firefox to version 91 on my iMac last night, then spent the next six hours trying to fix the browser UI design nightmare that resulted. WordPress.com management became impossible, as setting and colors were invisible.

    I wound up deleting Firefox and installing version 90, which took hours because I have bookmarks and many custom settings. This fixed everything, but now I do not have the many new security updates that Firefox 91 brings.

    Any suggestions about how to get Firefox 91 to play nice with WordPress.com site management?

    I can’t continue to use Firefox version 90 forever. I would use a different browser, but I have thousands of bookmarks organized inside of folders inside of folders which are inside of more folders, and Firefox is (or was until 91) the only browser with user-friendly bookmarks management.

    Hello there,

    I’m sorry to hear you’ve faced these issues here.

    Would you be able to tell me if you have any browser extensions running on Firefox?

    In particular, anything that relates to ad blocking?

    Also, if you’re able to provide a screenshot of what you’re seeing via https://snipboard.io/ – that would be most useful and would help with diagnosing what’s happening here.

    Thank you for offering to help.

    I have the following browser extensions for Firefox: Ghostery ad blocker, CanvasBlocker, ExpressVPN, and Ad Blocker for YouTube. These extensions did not cause a problem with Firefox 90. The problems only occurred with Firefox 91.

    I deleted Firefox 91 and installed Firefox 90. That eliminated all of the problems with not being able to see settings in WordPress.com site management, but I will eventually have to update Firefox for the security updates.

    Many thanks for getting back to me with that additional information.

    Ghostery ad blocker, CanvasBlocker, ExpressVPN, and Ad Blocker for YouTube. These extensions did not cause a problem with Firefox 90. The problems only occurred with Firefox 91.

    Ad blockers, or anything that has restrictive element to them have been known to tamper with how WordPress can operate.

    Would you be able to update Firefox and disable these extensions to see if the problem persists please?

    Another way to confirm if these extensions are the issue would be to use a separate browser like Chrome, to see if the issue appears there also.
