Firefox pop up warning on various wordpress blogs

@picnicjohn I just went to a page that’d had the pop up alert and it had gone too. However I had another idea and deleted both history and cookies for that site and then went back to it again the same way I had before (via a link) and the pop up alert appeared again. So it’s most likely that your computer – like mine – is using the cookies and history in your cache.

(TT – sorry, I hadn’t seen your question before)

You were logged in at the time? Becuase I could see if it were the ads doing it.

  • We don’t run pop-up ads or pop-ups of any kind, so I’m sure that isn’t us.

@raincoaster – I’ve been logged in and viewing posts on my own blog when I receive the pop-up message.

  • Yeah, that’s definitely not us then. We only display ads to visitors who are not logged in.

By the way, it might not be anything to do with ads – it might be some other kind of pop up. I didn’t click to find out what it was just in case it was malware. So I’m wondering if it’s something like a new tab? Is WordPress planning on putting more of the little tab things in, like the ‘follow’ button that’s at the bottom of some blogs, but for logged in users? Maybe it’s something like that. Just a thought.

Looks fixed to me unless it is a Firefox issue after all. I don’t see pop up blocked alert on IE9, even after deleting cookies, cache & browser history, whether logged in, out, or going through Anonymouse. It only started this morning, and only on two of my blog’s pages, both subordinates. (Don’t know if that’s relevant.) Connecting via a link doesn’t seem to matter. So thanks to whoever fixed it. (Or stopped using a temp configuration, if that’s what was going on.)

well, I’m relieved to see this thread because the same thing happened to me this morningnd it remains a mystery. I have the No Ads upgrade and was also logged in and using Firefox when it happened, It was on a very popular post, so I was worried my site had been hacked and messaged Support.

The support person replied that WordPress does not run Pop Up Ads and suggested it might be a browser add-on or a virus. When I replied the same thing happened later in the day on another computer with another post, he asked for a screen shot. I had “allowed” the pop-up and it appeared but just as quickly disappeared. Too fast to make a screen shot. I did see it was blank and had the url of my blog at the top.
