First comment gets too lengthy after activating "Comments Like" feature
-
What a nice addition this “Comments Like” feature!
Certainly, it’s something bloggers and readers wanted, but did anyone noticed that after activating this feature, the first comment on every post, even the old ones, gets too lengthy, perhaps 120 cm or so? At least, this happens to me, in my Andreas09 theme blog. You can see it, for example, here:
or in any other first comment in my blog’s posts.
Is there a way to fix this problem, please?
Thanks in advance.

I’m pretty sure that’s a bug. I’ve tagged this thread for staff to follow up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting.

Hi there,
It doesn’t seem to be happening on every post. Your first few posts, for example seem to not have the long space. Have you had a chance to review your blog yet to see which ones show that pattern and which don’t?
-
Of course, you ‘re absolutely right. I have to say I’m really sorry I didn’t notice earlier. As a matter of fact, I didn’t go through in each and every post. I checked 7-8 of them (all of them were old posts) and I noticed it was happening to all of them, so I assumed it was general.
Now I see that some of my recent posts are OK.I’m not sure I managed to find a pattern, but it seems to me that all posts before 31st of December 2013 have the problem.
Posts written in 2014 may or may not have the problem, in random order. Nothing to do regarding who the writer is. We are three writers in the blog and it happens to all three of us.These are all I could find. If something else strikes me, I’ll let you know, of course.
Many thanks for your efforts an your concern :)

Thanks so much for letting me know. I have put this in front of some of our developers and as soon as they give me any information I will pass that on to you!
-
This got all fixed by one of our developers at the end of last week, so your site should be good to go! Let me know if there’s anything else that I can do for you. :)
-
Thank you so much!!! You’re all wonderful!!! This is why the WP brand-name has such a great value and great reputation.
:)
You asked if there’s anything else that you can do for me.
Hmmm, in this time I cannot think of something else.
Just please tell the decision makers in WP to try to make the new Beep Beep Boop editor as functional and great is (was?) the old “classic” editor before it’s gone away.
This is my main concern now: To be able to have the same WP blogging experience as I have so many years now. And this can be done only if the new editor reaches the standards of the “classic” one.Anyway, thank you so much!!!
-
I can honestly say that I know they are working on it as fast and as hard as they can. Thanks so much for your kind words; we really appreciate hearing them!
Have a great week! :)

Hello, dear friend AmightyWP
I hope you’re doing well.I hate doing this but I have no choice. I Have to come back to report another issue, probably relevant to the previous one.
Can you see comment #3, here?
https://xyzcontagion.wordpress.com/2014/07/29/kyp-ekthesi-sxoles-kataskopon/#comment-5278I see again a lot of empty lines.
If you edit the comment, you’ll see that there is a scribd link just below the phrase “Εδώ:”.
Well, it can’t be seen, it’s gone in the eyes of the reader, and that’s really frustrating. This happens after the fix, and it’s the first time I noticed something like that.
But there’s more:
After the fix, I see extra empty lines in comment #1, just above the links.
These empty lines appear after the fix, too, and they should not be there. I just pressed “Return”. Where did they come from? This happens also in other comments, in other posts, like comment #5 here:
http://xyzcontagion.wordpress.com/2014/02/17/%CE%BC%CE%B5%CF%84%CE%AC-69-%CF%87%CF%81%CF%8C%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CE%B7-%CE%BC%CE%BF%CE%BD%CE%B1%CE%B4%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE-%CE%B1%CE%BD%CF%86%CE%AC%CF%82-%CF%87%CE%B1%CE%BC%CE%AD%CE%BD%CE%B7-%CF%86/#comment-3925And again in comment #27 in the same post:
http://xyzcontagion.wordpress.com/2014/02/17/%CE%BC%CE%B5%CF%84%CE%AC-69-%CF%87%CF%81%CF%8C%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CE%B7-%CE%BC%CE%BF%CE%BD%CE%B1%CE%B4%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE-%CE%B1%CE%BD%CF%86%CE%AC%CF%82-%CF%87%CE%B1%CE%BC%CE%AD%CE%BD%CE%B7-%CF%86/#comment-4019What happened again, for God’s sake?
I have to tell you that both errors occur either with the “Comment Like” feature on or off.
I’m very sad about it. All these days, I’m practically debugging the new Beep Beep Boop editor, having conversations with WP engineers about a lot of issues, like a beta tester, instead of concentrating in my blog’s content.
So, what can we do about these two issues? I guess they have something to do with the previous fix, since I’ve never seen these problem in the past.
Thanks in advance :)

I’m very sorry for your frustration. I will speak with our developers. I must point out however that this theme has been retired for some time now. As themes are retired and code is not kept up-to-date with features (not just things like comment likes or the new editor, but things like security updates which are pushed out to all blogs throughout our entire system) there can be issues like this.
We will of course do what we can, but at some point you may need to move to a more modern theme which is still being maintained by its developers.
-
Thanks for your answer. I didn’t know that this theme has been retired. Knowing that now, it make sense if the developers don’t pay too much attention for its appearance.
OK, I can live with one extra empty line every time I press “Enter” in a comment.
But, what about the scribd link inside the comment in my first example, which it has been vanished and can’t be seen anymore. I think this is sort of serious and I think you’ll agree with me on that.I don’t know if that’s possible but maybe it would be a good idea if we could return to the code that was active before the “comments like empty lines gap” patch or whatever code was active about 20 days ago. In that period of time, everything was working perfect.
I know you’ll do your best, and I have to thank you in advance for that, and of course I’ll wait. Though, I can’t understand how an addition or an improvement can cause this kind of serious problems such as the disappearance of a link inside a comment.
-
Yes indeed, your theme was retired 2 years ago. There is a notice at the top of your screen when you log in to your dashboard which tells you that there is a new version of it called “Able” available.
I understand that it is a bit strange, but any time new features are rolled out, the current set of code has to be taken in to account. Themes are kept up to date with current standards and practices so that any new features will not break them. Old themes which are retired are not, so things like this might happen to them.
Like I mentioned, I have put this in front of our developers and as soon as I have any information for you I will let you know!
