First post questions
-
I am just getting ready to publish my first post and I had several questions before I click PUBLISH.
I have my draft saved but when I previewed it I wanted to change several things.
1. I would like less room between the bottom of my header and the top of the first post.
2. Under the title of the recipe instead of what it says now.., posted in…
I would just like the category and the tags for the recipe for example…
Soup/creamy soup/ mushroom.3. I would like less space between the recipe title and info and the first photograph.
4. Before the recipe I would like to put in a page break that could say
Get the Recipe which would lead the viewer to another page I guess.5. I dont know why my sharing buttons are not showing. I would like them to show below the recipe.
6. Can I change the coral colored line in the recipe to red?
I think that is it for now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

I am guessing you will be able to see my draft? If not should I post it and then make the changes? Whatever works best. Thank you for any help.

Hi Mary Ann,
Only staff members can see draft posts. Volunteers don’t have any special access to your site so we can only see what’s published. Let me know if you publish the post, then I will take a look for you.

Thank you so much for replying. I just pressed the publish button! Also under my widget titled “latest recipes” I wanted the font color to be the same navy as everything else. And now my sharing buttons are visible, but for some reason there is no info now under the title of the recipe so I would still like the category/tags. Thank you so much for any help!

I was wondering if anyone was around to help with my questions from my post dated yesterday 11/16 at 2:43pm. I published my first post today and just wanted to change a couple things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We can’t help without the URL of the post, starting with http.
The typical time for a response in the CSS forum is 1-2 days.
4) use the MORE tag or a theme that automatically truncates posts
5) ensure you have enabled share buttons on index and other pages as well as blog posts.
Do not bump your threads here. When you re-post to the thread to ask what’s going on, you send your post to the back of the line for help. Just wait.

I will wait to see if the person from yesterday replies. Hallluke told me to indicate when I published the post and then he could look at it. I dont understand what u mean when u say bump my threads? Sorry.
Mary Ann -
I mean when you re-post, saying “so, does anyone have an answer” etc. If anyone has an answer, they will put it here.
-
Thank you for your help. I can wait for Hallluke to get back to me. The URL for my post is http://thebeachhousekitchen.com/2014/11/17/classic-cream-of-mushroom-soup/ I did manage to put in the more tag and changed it to read GO TO THE RECIPE and also my share buttons appeared on the post page when I published it. Thank you again for your help.

Sorry I missed your response, here’s how I would try to make the changes you’ve listed.
Firstly, to reduce the spacing under the header section try this:
.site-main { margin-top:0; }I don’t see any recipe tags under the title, just the serving amount, duration and print bits. Can you clarify what you’re attempting to do?
You seem to have extra space before the ingredients list as there is a blank p tag in the HTML. Try checking to see if there is an extra paragraph tag or line break in your recipe and then deleting it.
I can see your sharing buttons, they can be hidden by adblock (or possibly other similar browser extensions) so that’s definitely something to check!
And finally to change the underline colour you can add this to your CSS:
.jetpack-recipe-title { border-color:red; } -
Thank you so much for your reply! I fixed the space under the header but I guess I wasn’t clear as I also wanted to reduce the space after the title of the recipe at the top of the page where I also have the date. I changed the color of the line to red but is there also a way to change the color of the GO TO THE RECIPE and bold it? That is still coral colored. And for some reason the tags are showing up coral too at the bottom of the post which I would like to change to red.
And under the title of the recipe at the top of the post I wanted to always have the category and tags show for the recipe. Is there anyway to do that?
I dont know what you mean that my sharing buttons are hidden by adblock or a similar browser extension…I can see them so I am not sure what you mean? Thank you SO much for all ur help!!

You have another empty paragraph right at the start of your post content so try removing this first. You can also reduce the spacing with a combination of these rules:
.entry-header { margin-bottom:0; } .entry-content { margin-top:0; }You can change the more link using code like this:
.more-link { color:blue; font-weight:bold; }Here’s how to move the tags to the top of the post. It’s not so easy ot place them under the title as the title might take up more than one line and the location has to be specified exactly. See what you think!
article.post { position:relative; } .entry-meta .tags-links { position:absolute; top:0; left:0; } .entry-header { padding-top:30px; }If your sharing buttons are appearing again then that’s great – your original point 5 stated that you were having problems with them!

Thank you. I did not like the tags on top of the recipe but I do like it with the less space on the top of the recipe title and the bottom of the recipe title! I put in the code to change the link color to blue and bold and the tags color and at first it worked, but then I went back in and tried to change the font size to make it larger too and it didnt work and when I tried to put the code back in it is showing coral again and wont change. UGH! What did I do?
-
The more link and recipe border both appear how I’d expect. It’s possible your browser is caching the old code and not loading the new stuff so try refreshing or following the steps shown here and see if that helps.

Thank you for continuing to help me today. I cleared my browser cache and then went back in and changed the color to the dark navy. When it says design is published I look and it shows the dark navy but then it immediately goes back to the coral color when I check on my ipad. And my computer. The recipe card line has stayed the dark red. I dont know what the problem could be?? Also when I posted my first post and my widget latest recipes came up the font color of the recipe “classic cream of mushroom soup” is not the navy like the rest of the site. Any ideas on that too? I am sorry to be such a pain today!

It is strange because if I click on “go to the recipe” it changes to the dark navy , but only when I click on it. When u arent hovered on it it is coral.
Thanks…Mary Ann -
Ah I see what you mean now. You can specify a separate colour so visitors know which links they have already visited. Here’s how to set that for the more tag link:
.more-link:visited { color:#233155; } -
Oh my gosh thank you so much! I figured out why the recent posts widget type is a different font. I think it is supposed to be so the reader knows they can click on it to read the recipe. I am working on my recipes page. A drop down menu is not working for my theme even though it is supported (I think it may have something to do with my header) but I think I would rather have the reader go straight to the page like I have created. For some reason though that dreaded CORAL color shows up there too! Can I change that too? It keeps following me!! I think anytime I use a link it is going to show coral!
I have been checking along the way to make sure all things are working and wanted to know why when I put soup in my search bar why do three posts come up? How can I just get the actual one I posted on Nov 17 to come up and get ridof Nov 18 and Oct 7? Thank you sooo much for all your help!!

You should be able to set your default link colours with code like this, be prepared to do some experimenting!
a, a:focus, a:active { color:red; } a:visited { color:green; } a:hover { color:blue; } -
Thank you! Any idea on getting rid of those 2 posts when I search for soup so I only have the real one dated Nov 17?
I also tried enlarging the font for “Go to the Recipe” by adding font-size:15px to the .more-link CSS, but it didnt work. Thank you once again!
