One: While experimenting, I mistakenly signed up for a WordPress blog entitled ‘chicagothug,’ not realizing that the system locked me into a running introductory program. I thought there would be flexibility. I thought I could make changes. My current goal is to return to the earlier status and start over. Also, when WordPress affixes additional names to my blog’s name– WorPress creates, in my case, the need to shorten the blog’s name. Another reason to simply start over. I have not returned an email. Please delete my application so I can use my email to confirm information for the blog I actually want. I only have one email.
Two: I have a domain thru Godaddy. My long term goal is to establish a Word Press website (then a podcast) and have it hosted by GoDaddy. The reason is: i live in GoDaddy’s physical area, then –when needing technical help– it’s easy for me to talk with personnel there. I came to WordPress b/c of its great reputation. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can start over all again building your site by emptying your site. You can delete all the contents – posts, pages, media etc.
Refer the document linked below:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/
Once you clean up your site you can start over again from scratch.
https://wordpress.com/start/site/WordPress affixes additional names to my blog’s name
I believe you are talking about .wordpress.com in addition to your domain name. This is because you are using free plan. If you want a custom domain name then you need to purchase either of Personal, Premium or Business upgrade plan.
https://wordpress.com/plansI have a domain thru Godaddy
If you already have a domain name then you can map your domain. There is no need to build another site. All you have to do is point your DNS (Domain Name Servers) to WordPress.com. You can then manage your site content with WordPress.com.
Follow the instructions step by step

Hi there,
Welcome to WordPress.com!
To change your user name you can follow the instructions here:
If you want to change your site name, follow the instructions here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
As for having your site hosted by GoDaddy, you may want to look into the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. You can read more about it here:
Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi chicagothug,
1. If you want to change your username or display name, here is how to: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/
Also, if you want to change the name of podtheonblog.wordpress.com , you can by following these steps: https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
You may not need to start all over again.
2. You can always redirect traffic from your WordPress Site to a GoDaddy domain by following these steps: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
But you will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan to be able to do that https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Let me know if this helps.

Thanks everyone for your help here!
@chicagothug it sounds like you actually wanted to host your site with GoDaddy, correct? You do have the option to install you own copy of WordPress there if you’d like, and use the forums at https://wordpress.org/support instead for help with WordPress itself. As you can see, the community here is eager to help. WordPress.org has a great community too, as its support is entirely community based.
WordPress.com has staff help too if you have an ugpraded plan on our servers.
This article @tifanne83 mentioned may help: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Let us know if you have questions. :)

Right, each of you seem to have an understanding of my problem. Sounds as if I should, since GoDaddy has set-up hosting FOR WordPress, first attempt to leap from GoDaddy to WordPress using their tools. In that case “krutidugade’s” approach may be best.
If I understand Kruti, I should go to “https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/” and
empty everything. At that point, I should be in position to start over. I’ll return to GoDaddy and launch my new WordPress blog/website from there.
Most of all, I do appreciate the comments from: Supernovia, moodybierd, tifanne83 and krutigade.
BTW, I’m not taking any action at this point. Much to do! Much to do! Soooo— if I’m mistaken, etc., please let me know.

@chicagothug
There seems to be a bit of confusion here. This is your WordPress.com account which has podtheonblog.wordpress.com site.
Now, you can empty this site which will remove it’s contents and leave you only site. You can start building this site from scratch.
If you dislike domain name of this site you can change it
https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/With GoDaddy you’ll create a WordPress.org site. You can manage this site by another account. This site won’t be linked to WordPress.com account.
If you already have a domain and you wish to handle it by ‘chicagothug’ this account then you opt for domain mapping.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Domain mapping will link this site with your account. Your this site will be independent of podtheonblog.wordpress.com site. Both will be linked to same account. If you don’t have a domain and you wish to handle it by same account then I would suggest purchase a domain with WordPress.com. Don’t set up a site with GoDaddy if you want to manage with this account.

Let us know if you have more questions, @chicagothug :) For what it’s worth, you don’t need to empty the site here if you plan on hosting elsewhere. It’s separate, so you don’t have to do anything to it to start over.

I replied to your msg-s, but my text has been kicked off the board. Not sure why. I am making progress by going to Godaddy. Thanks

My mistake.
Supernovia, I will leave everything–as is. Seems that I can always come back and make needed changes.
krutidugade. .com v.s. org. Big, big difference, thanks.

Perfect. We’ll close this thread. If you need help with a site here at WordPress.com, feel free to open a new thread. Or for WordPress.org installations, head to https://wordpress.org/support for community help there. Cheers :)
