Fishing advertising & advertising in wrong place
-
Hi,
I understand that free plans with wordpress will have adds for external visitors. It’s great that when the owners browse through the website they get to see where these adds will be located.
Now… I was a bit disappointed and surprised when our main page is being targeted by adds, right in the middle of a picture. (I would can send you printscreen as this is probably not very clear) This is problematic as these adds are blocking part of our content. Besides that, there is no indication when we are editing the website that these adds will be there.
Is there a way around this?Furthermore, some of your adds are clearly fishing…
thank you,Andre

Looking at the site listed above when logged out of WordPress.com I only see the usual two adverts at the bottom of your posts and pages as I see on my own site. I don’t see any ads blocking images. Are you looking at your site on a PC or a phone? Are you sure you haven’t any malware in your browser? The best thing to do is to take a screenshot and place it in your media library. Then return here and add the word modlook to the tag box on the right. A member of staff can then check if it is one of their adverts causing the problem.

I also viewed your site while logged out first and then logged in. I see what the magicrobot sees only 2 ads below your posts.
My details from https://supportdetails.com/ are:

Please act on all the tips here https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ first.
• Make sure you are running an up to date browser version found at http://browsehappy.com
• Make sure you have both JavaScript and third party cookies enabled https://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/#how-do-i-enable-third-party-cookies.
• Disable any adblocker browser add-ons and all browser extensions and adons.
• Try clearing your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
• Try using another browser.I think you could have have an issue on your browser or computer. The ads could be caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.
There is no malware on the site. Here’s the result of the scan of the site https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/lettersthule.wordpress.com/
If you are not successful please post this specific info here:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(3) Screenshot linksYou can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.
Then type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Dear all,
Thank you for your replies.
I’m using a PC running Windows 10 and accessing the website on Firefox with the latest updates. I’m using private mode on Firefox, otherwise the website automatically connects with my account and I won’t see the adds. You might want to check this section of the website, that’s where the problem happens:

Hi there,
That’s the correct placement of the ads on the Free plan sites (below the posts). If you want to completely eliminate those ads you need to upgrade to one of our plans:

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Hi there,
Thank you for the reply.
I would ask you to take a closer look at the picture. There are in fact 5 more posts bellow the one I’m showing and as you can see, the add is partially covering the first post.
So the placement is not bellow the posts… Is that normal?
Thank you,
Andre

When logged out of WordPress.com and visiting https://lettersthule.wordpress.com/posts/ I see Lake District trip with the two adverts below the Read more button. Yes, the ads may be over the image but I believe that is normal. Perhaps if you didn’t have the Read more button the ads would be pushed further down as you see when clicking through to read the full post. The only way to remove the ads is to upgrade to a paid plan.

Just noting the featured images on this theme serve as background images. Your text and Read More button will overlap the images, and so will the ads. Since the posts page is full of background images, there’s not really another place we can display ads on that page anyhow.
