Fitting a picture into 1100 X 180 Header

    Any ideas how to fit a picture into a 1100 X 180 Header? it is a regular sized picture, 3×5 proportions, but when I make the picture 1100 wide and then upload and crop it in WP it is so narrow it cuts off a lot of the subject for the photo. I am trying to get an individual in that narrow field. Do I just need to take the picture with the subject far away so they come out small in the pic and fit in the 180 height? What am I doing wrong? It is for the Header for the template Bouquet. Or can I adjust the header image and give it more height?
