Fix MX records in order to receive emails again

Problem: I can send but not receive emails

I hosted my site through Godaddy, but now my email is not working properly. Entered all the required DNS records at the WordPress domain area, but here is the problem:

As soon as I enter the MX record (http://(my domain)-com.mail.protection.outlook.com/) and update, close the DNS editor and open it again, the same MX record has changed to SMTP.europesecureserver.net . Why is this and how van I solve the problem?

Yes I use the real domain name instead of (my domain) ;)

Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi there!

Your website – cuisicians.com is hosted with WordPress as it runs on the WordPress.com platform. Since you’ve updated your nameservers to the WordPress addresses, any changes that you make through Godaddy will not work. :)

Hence, to change your MX records, you’ll have to do it through the ‘My Domains‘ page in WordPress. Here, you’ll find a link ‘Edit DNS’, where you can add a new MX entry with your Outlook MX records.

Web hosts normally say that it takes up to 48 hours for changes in DNS values to take effect, but normally, it should not take much time. :)

You can find more help here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/

To change the DNS values of your domain, visit:
    https://wordpress.com/my-domains/

    Hope this works.

    Happy Blogging!

    Hi Hari,

Thanks for your quick response! I am however already editing the DNS information in the ‘edit DNS ‘ area of WordPress. The problem is that when I change the MX record, it automatically changes into the unwanted SMTP link. Do you get my problem?

    Hello again!

I think I found a solution to your issue. :)

In the mx-entry column, did you try to paste the following text?
    ‘http://(my domain)-com.mail.protection.outlook.com/’

Remove the HTTP, and try again. :)
    For example,
    ‘(my domain)-com.mail.protection.outlook.com’

This should be the one you should be using. The dummy value that was being pasted was perhaps because you used ‘http://’ and ‘/’ before and after your MX entry, respectively.

Do let me know if this works. :)

    Cheers!
    Hari.
