Sounds like you’re wanting to set a static home page. You can read further on how to get it set up…

Mariah. Thanks. Right, I want a static home page and think I created one. This is what happened. I first created a page 6 months ago when I knew even less. That page is listed as my oldest Archive page. Now, I created an improved page and want it to be what visitors see when they arrive at my site. I’ve tried different things, but the old page remains home. I named my new page Home, but that doesn’t help. Help!
-
Gotcha. You can choose what page you would like to appear as the static page. To make the change, did you follow these steps:
Go to My Sites>Customize>Static Front Page>A Static Page. Choose the page from the drop down that you are wanting to set as a static front page, then make sure you hit save.
You currently have two of “Home” appearing in your menu area with the same content. One would be your “static” home page. I would suggest naming one or the other something different to help you more easily identify what you’re working with when making changes.
Have a look through the support documents that I sent to you regarding pages. Also, check out this link to help explain the difference between posts and pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
If you have further questions, just let me know and i’ll do my best to help work it out with you.

Thanks Mariah. Your instructions look good. I need to get away from the computer now. Will try later and be in touch. Have a great weekend.

Hi, I followed the instructions to create the page I want as a Static Page where visitors land, but it didn’t work.
Currently, you land on the first page I created in January.
Then click on Recent Posts, you come to Home with a brief description and another link Home. That link takes you to what I want to be my Static Page.
Also, I went into that page and added PayPal but saw no tab to Publish.
A little frustrating, but I think I’m almost There.
Please help. Thanks -
Okay. I will look further into this for you later this afternoon/tonight when I have the computer in front of me.

This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) A static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. Create your pages first
Front page:
Posts page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/After you do that you go to > Dashboard > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

thanks again for all your help. I finally got it right, almost. Visitors land, not on the home page, but on a PayPal page that has a pay button and button marked Home that takes you to my home page. How can I fix it so visitors land on Home?
-
When you go in to customize, static page, what do you show as selected for the front page drop down?

What do you think of the nothing theme? Can you suggest one. I didn’t see anything appropriate.
-
I really don’t know any themes to suggest. I haven’t tinkered with them aside from using a test page to switch themes while looking at specific problems users experience. Have you gone to the Theme Showcase and used the drop down list to help filter through what you’re looking for? If you have an idea of what you would like the layout to look like, you could try posting here for suggestions:

I looked through a bunch of themes but didn’t see any that would go with a hippie history book.
Someone said there’re plugins that would sharpen up my appearance. Do you know about them?
