Fixed background does not work on Ipad

My page has a background image which is displayed with the help of “Covers” that are marked “fixed background”. When scrolling down, the background image is correctly fixed in the background as the various text filled covers are scrolled. However, when showing the page on an Ipad, this does not work: the image is zoomed in on (which looks very weird) and it does not work as a fixed background, but is rather scrolled together with the other content. Can someone help me figure out what is wrong?

  • Hi, mobile browsers do not yet support fixed background images — it takes a surprising amount of energy / CPU / memory to make that happen, so mobile browsers have opted to just disable that option.

I’d recommend using an image that works regardless of whether it’s scrolling or not. For what it’s worth, though, I don’t think the image you’ve chosen looks that strange as a mobile background.

Hi and thanks for your answer.

It does work on my phone, however. Just not on the iPad.

  • Hello there,

Have you tried clearing the browser cache on the tablet device?

You may wish to give that a go and see if the image appears.

Please see this helpful guide here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

    Many thanks in advance.
