Flash/Movement Capability?

When I am ready to put a logo on the blog, I would like a “flash” element to move behind it as part of my logo, but I don’t want it to be a continuous movement, only when the viewer first comes to the site. Is this a capability of this platform?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you require this, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on code if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

okay thanks. If I decide to go simple at first and then switch over to .org, is that an easy process? I know of a company here who hosts and I trust this company, but I want to be able to do the design and development of the site. I was hoping to move my simple logo into the site as a moving object, but I might just forgo this for now as I don’t want to put out too much money right now as I get it going.

It’s not going to be too much money, but how are you with code? It’s entirely up to you to manage this and get it working.

I am rusty on code, but I believe there are tutorials out there. Is there assistance like on these forums?

Yes there are Volunteers at wordpress.ORG on the forums but they are not as quick to answer as we are.
Volunteers here at wordpress.com are quick to answer and we are patient. I won’t BS you. Over at wordpress.ORG it’s a tough go. You will be primarily locating your own answers. Don’t expect the kind of support you get here there as you will be disappointed if you do.

Festival, perhaps a way around this is by creating a GIF file for your header. GIF files are permitted. This way, your header can move, and you can set the time parameters for it to move.
To create GIF’s, I use gimp.com program, it takes a little getting used to, but once you get the knack of it, it works well.

Good idea. PS: most everyone I know with any degree of sophistication hates flash, although it’s huge in the Arts.

… and don’t forget to make your gif image exactly the right size. (Check your theme for the size to use). If you don’t use the correct size, WP will scale it to a JPEG (which won’t animate).

Wow people… you are awesome! Thank you for the suggestions. I knew there might be a way to “jury rig” something and I will try it—stay tuned. One of the things I love about wordpress is that you all are so patient and giving! It is a great place to learn especially when one hasn’t used code, etc. for a very long time. “You Lose what you don’t use.” But one can regain what is lost through the generosity of platforms such as wordpress. Hey Timethief, thanks for your honesty! With .org is there a lot of information in a forum atmosphere like here in wordpress.com, so you can pull up a topic and use that for direction if need be?
