Flexible kubrick
-
Hi there,
I would like my standard Kubrick theme to be a bit wider to support code examples I will eventually like to post.
I tried hacking the css (I am an mature) and kinda got it upto 900px wide, but what I would really love is a flexible Kubrick theme that gave me the full screen width.Something like the Rubric but with the Kubrick look and feel?
Should I be able to do this with the hosted wordpress.com solution? Or would I need to host my own soln to have full control over the style sheet (etc).
Any guidance, tips, or feedback would be most welcome.
Cheers – Jonathan

You can do it, but with the Kubrick design being somewhat of a junior high school woodshop project, it is difficult to work with and requires that you create new background images to support the new design. What you are wanting would require at least a moderate to medium-advanced level of CSS knowledge.

Thanks sacredpath,
So it’s not as easy and just getting rid of some width tags.
Do you think it would be easier to hack the existing Kubrick (because I really like the simple look and feel) or would it be easier starting with a flexible width layout (like Rubric) and adding my look and feel onto that.
Or are they probably the same amount of effort.
Also, if I wanted to hire someone to do this, can you recomment a website that is good for finding people who do this kind of stuff?
Thx again, Jonathan

Can we get a link to the blog please?
Generally it would be easier to start with a flexible width theme. The Rubic CSS looks pretty straight forward and clean.

Sorry for the delay….

Aside: Ha! ha! ha! flexible and Kubrick in the same sentence … lol :D
Please pardon me for the levity. It’s definitely not directed at you. I hope you’re into photoshop because if you read this entry then you will begin to comprehend what’s ahead for you https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/problems-removing-border-around-page?replies=5#post-383627

My suggestion is that you switch to a different theme – any theme but Kurick. It is a nightmare to work with as I’ve said.
There is a sandbox CSS skin for Kubrick, but it was done back in 2006 which means it would have to be updated to work with the features WP has added since then, and also I would suggest updating it to work with at least Sandbox 1.1 and preferably with 1.6.1.

It would still require considerable work in an image editing program to get a wider fixed width theme, and even more work if you wished to turn it into a flexible width theme.

OK. Thanks for the feedback. I think I am catching up with you guys.
Kubrick != flexible and I should try something else. Thanks for your help.

You’re welcome, and it will be a lot easier to use one of the other BBH (big blue header) themes such as K2 or Contempt. Both of those are much easier to work with.
As far as flexible width themes, most of the ones here are a little painful to customize and typically require a good bit of photoshop work.
