Flexible Width – Rubric Theme

Please point the way to adjust the width for the Rubric theme? I want to make it somewhat wider if possible. I am probably tripping over the answer, but just don’t see it :) Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry but that’s not possible without purchasing the CSS upgrade. If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

Rubic is a flexible width theme which means it will be as wide as you make your browser window. If you had a ten foot wide monitor, and you maximized the width of your browser window, you would have a ten foot wide blog. I have a 2560px wide monitor and it your blog expands to that width.

Thanks to both of you. I appreciate the effort put into your answers. Timethief, I will add the CSS upgrade to my ‘wishlist’. And Thesacredpath – it is the wishlist as well, for the the 46″ monitor, lol.

    You’re welcome.

It’s funny when I bought this 30″ Apple Cinema Display, I couldn’t believe how much room I had. Now 5 years later, I’m whining because it isn’t big enough.

Just a opinion tossed out here. Flexible width themes have their places, but for general sites and text related content, a content width of 500px to 750px is pretty much optimum for reading purposes. Anything wider than that and it gets difficult for the eye to track from line to line.
