Flick-A-Day

Flick-A-Day is a site I use daily. It has a cool embeddable widget but it don’t work on wordpress!?! Why? I am aware of the security issue of allowing javascript on the site but can’t you just verify that this particular piece of code is safe and let it be accessed as a widget?
Flick-A-Day widget:
It’s too cool not to have on your blog… really!

It could happen in the future, but at this time, javascript, flash, and iframes are not allowed at wordpress.com.

Thanks, getting to grips with the restrictions here on wordpress.com now. I’m surprised at how limited it is in terms of ‘widgets’. Can only hope at some point down the line a proper solution to securing a webpage with javascript or flash embedded in it can be implemented rather than prohibiting it completely.

There are two wordpress options and some of us actually have hosted wp.org installs as well as wordpress.com blogs. Maybe the other option would suit you better :) http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/wordpresscom-vs-wordpressorg/

I agree, particularly since this is a proprietary type of code, it seems. WP.com generally takes a very cautious approach to adding services to the “approved” list, and this will be waaaaaay down on the priority list, well behind things like GodTube, etc. With an independently-hosted blog, you can start using whatever widgets you want immediately.
