Flickr woes
-
Please excuse the newb questions. I’ve hunted around the support topics, but I’m just not finding answers.
Two things:
When I use the add an image button, which flickr image url do I need to paste into the Image URL form? Nothing I try seems to work. I can only include images if I use the HTML tab and paste the html code from flickr. Isn’t there an easier way? Then, I broke ALL the image links to flickr when I tried resetting permissions on my flickr account. Please tell me there is a quick and easy way to re-establish the image links to flickr. Please?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you made sure the Flickr images allow you to use them? The default at Flickr is all copyright reserved.

airodyssey – Thanks for linking to that. Yes, I did read that. I actually don’t want to blog from within flickr. I’d really prefer to use the wordpress site.
raincoaster – But… these are my images, from my account. I just want to use the “Add an Image button” from within the Visual (not HTML) editor. I can’t seem to make any of the links that flickr provides (on their Share This! tab) work.
timethief – the URL is http://tinyschool.wordpress.com/, but the blog is private. Basically, it just has these empty flickr frames that say “This photo is currently unavailable.” And I did reset my flickr permissions so that Anyone can view those pictures.
So again, two things… How do I link to flickr from the Visual Editor? and How do I fix those image links?
Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you.

@kyliek if your flickr images were previously on “private” setting and then you changed it to public, yes it changed the url and broke. the links, my guess is you probably have to redo them one by one
when you insert the links, the html code that starts http farm static is the one that goes on the top line marked “IMAGE URL”…The “Link Image to” line would be the url that starts http://www.flickr.com/photos(name & no of photo). As you know, you get this code on your photo page by clicking on “Share” tab, then Grab HTML. Then fill in the caption lines.
That’s the way I always do it. I’m not aware of an easier way.. There is a “Blog this” option on the flickr tab, but I’ve never used it. I was under the impression it was for blogging a photo as an individual post.

I was afraid that I was going to have to fix things the hard way… Thanks for comfirming. I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t an easier way.
Okay, I am an html dummy (know nothing at all about it), so please bear with me. Where would I find the code that starts with “http farm static”?
And just to clarify… I am supposed to select “Grab the HTML” and not “Grab the link” for the “Link Image to” line…?
I know, I know. So dense. Y’all are very patient. Thank you.

you’re not a dummy. flickr changed some of these things a few months ago. it takes a little getting used to.
go to the flickr page with the individual photo
right above it, there are 2 tabs with drop down menus: 1) Action 2) Share This
click on the arrow that says “Share This”
Click on the GRAB the HTML?BBl code option
Then you’ll see a box that says “copy and paste the code below”
Here is a sample from one of my photos, but I replaced the number with X’s
You’ll need BOTH urls to put your pix on your blog. the http://farm5.static.flickr.com/XXXXXXX.jpg url is the one that goes on the top line of the wordpress form, the other one–http://www.flickr.com/photos/XXXXXX@XXXXXX/ is the link (last line)<img src=”http://farm5.static.flickr.com/XXXXXXX.jpg” width=”500″ height=”375″ alt=”A IMG_3467″ />
btw the default is for the medium (500 X 375) pic which I usually use. If you want a different size, select it from the drop down menu

@electricia1 – Thank you!! After much hair-pulling and teeth-gnashing, I finally figured it out after reading your post. So the answer is not to paste the entire HTML code that flickr gives, but just the part that starts http://farm5.static.flickr.com… etc. Things are working smoothly now. Your help is so appreciated!
