Foiled by Flickr
-
I’ve recently moved to WordPress from Blogger and am having trouble with uploading pictures from my Flickr account. Whenever I click the “add media” and paste in the Flickr photo URL – I receive a big red “X”. It seems the only way I can upload a picture is if I bring it in “from my computer” and I’d prefer not to do that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Seems I have seen others with this problem and you need to paste in the URL of the picture not the URL of the page the picture is displayed on

Right, except Flickr does not make this easy. I am going from memory now, but I recall you have to jump through hoops to get the URL for the photo. One way is to take the HTML code they give you and parse out the link to the photo. Another is to display the photo by itself on Flickr and copy the URL. In order to display the image there is a link to follow and I think you need to select the image size you want (300 pixels etc). Keep in mind the HTML code they give you has a lot of extra tags in it which includes a link back to Flickr and other unnecessary stuff. Hope this helps.

Great, thanks so much! After reading your notes, I went back and tried a few different things. The trick was deleting some of the superflous code that was added to the link. When I’ve uploaded photos to blogger, I could copy the entire link – – but with WordPress you’ve got to start with the “http://farm9.staticflickr.com … and then what ever the #’s are linking to the photo.
I’m sure I’ll be back soon with more questions … the learning curve is quite steep! Thanks again.
