Folders

Do WordPress business sites allow the owner to create folders that are accessible to users (public visitors). For instance, our City has to provide public records of past meeting records and it would be nice to be able to have folders for each year which can be accessed by the public. Is this possible ?

  • Hi there,

With our Business Plan, it would be possible to set up a folder at the server level and make it accessible to the public. The primary limitation is that you would need to use some kind of FTP app to access the server both to create the folder and periodically to upload content.

Instead we usually recommend that you upload your documents directly to the media library on the site. This is easy for any admin on the site to do by logging in to WordPress.

This will not create a “folder” but it will allow you to create an index page on the site, where you can embed the documents (or provide simple hyperlinks, your choice) so that they can be accessed and downloaded by the public.

    More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/uploading-documents/

Note that uploading documents to the media library is supported on all our sites, (even free ones) but you may still wish to consider the business plan since it will give you access to live chat help for future questions as they come up, rather than needing to wait for a reply in our public forums.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
