  Hi- I am looking to post a link on my Twitter account that will allow people to follow my blog. I have the widget on the site of my blog (www.elizabethraflowitz.com/blog) but I am looking to have people click a link from a Twitter post, to have them directly follow the blog.

  Hi Elie,

  For the subscription process to work correctly, WordPress.com has to receive a certain level of input. There isn’t a way to do this cleanly with just a link you can post on twitter, that’s why the widget is available.

  Think about it this way: If I’m reading an article on a news site and I see an advertisement to buy a book — when I click on the ad, I’m not charged immediately and the book delivered. I get taken to a page where I can order the book. They put lots of pictures and information on that page so that I’m enticed to the order the book — but I know what I’m signing up for.

  I’d recommend you do the same. This is called landing page design.

  Make a page on your site that’s dedicated just to telling people why they should receive your blog posts in their email. Make sure the follow widget is on that page. Then on Twitter, post a link to that page. It’s best practices for the web, and it’s more practical to setup as well.
