Add a Follow Blog Widget. I can’t find it in my list of widgets.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I have 2 blog. One is 365holidaysayear.wordpress.com
    The other is 365.famosapublications.com

On 365holidaysayear.wordpress.com, yes I see the option when I click on the link you provide. It looks different from what I get when I go into widgets in my blog.

However, it’s the 365.famosapublications.com site that I’m most interested in putting a follow button on. And I want the option that lets people follow the blog even if they are not wordpress users.

I was experimenting with various things. That’s why I have 2 blogs. Eventually I want to get rid of 365holidaysayear and just use 365.famospuablications.com

But it’s important to me to be able to put an email subscription widget on the blog.

Thank you so much for your attention.

365holidaysayear.wordpress.com has a follow button, but it is only for people how are on wordpress. I would like to change it so that people who are not on wordpres ca

  • Howdy-

Adding the Follow Blog widget will allow folks to follow along via their email address and not through a WordPress.com user account. Here are the details to set that up:

I read this article and that’s why I asked my question. I don’t see that as an option in either of my themes.

    365holidaysayear uses Twenty Sixteen Theme

    365.famosapublications uses Nirvana Theme.

These are the only widgets I have in nirvana

    Archives
    Calendar
    categories
    cryout column
    custom menu
    end blog spam
    meta
    pages
    recent comments
    rss
    search
    tag cloud
    text
    wp spam shield counter

  • Good morning –

Apologies that I didn’t take a closer look at the sites themselves yesterday before replying. http://365.famosapublications.com/ is not hosted with WordPress.com.

There are 2 versions of WordPress. What happens here on WordPress.com is a bit different from using the WordPress software with a hosting company. More details about those differences are outlined in this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

For help with a self hosted WordPress site you’ll want to post at wordpress.org/support/

The other site you’ve mentioned, 365holidaysayear.wordpress.com, is hosted with WordPress.com. To add the follow blog widget to this site you will click on My Sites > Customize > Widgets > Sidebar > type “follow” into the text search field > Select Follow Blog Widget.

It will look like this on your screen when you get to the right place:

Are you planning to use 365.famosapublications.com on WordPress.com?

I was able to install a Follow field in the 365HolidaysaYear site hosted by Word Press

I was not able to do the same thing on 365.famosapublications.com following the same directions. I will ask in the forums you suggest.

But one other important question. If someone follows my blog via the follow button, do I have access to that email?

  • Hi there,

If someone follows my blog via the follow button, do I have access to that email?

If they have a WordPress.com username account you won’t. In that case you’ll only see their username in the Followers section of your stats. If they don’t have a WordPress.com username account you should see their email listed under Email-only followers.

Note that if you want to use the emails for other purposes, like a newsletter, etc., the laws in many countries require you to get explicit permission for that. So if that’s your intent I’d recommend you rather use the MailChimp pop-up form for the WordPress.com site, and a MailChimp (or other provider’s) plugin for the self-hosted site.
