Follow Blog Widget – Do followers need a wordpress account to get email updates?

  Hi!

  I added the follow blog widget on my site. When I tested it with my personal email, I received the follow email, clicked it, and said that I could not subscribe.

  Is this because my personal email is not connected to a wordpress account? Ideally, I want people to be able to subscribe and get email updates without needing a wordpress account.

  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

  You can subscribe just with an email address, absolutely. Logged out users see an email box, while logged in users see a Follow button on sites with the Follow Blog Widget that are hosted at WordPress.com. (Jetpack connected sites have the same widget, but just see the email box.)

  Did you happen to click on the confirmation while logged in to WordPress.com as this account? Try logging out, then clicking on the confirmation. The system prevents you from confirming a subscription on one email while logged in as another.
