I have a Follow Via Email button on my page of goreadmydustybooks but not a regular Follow button. How do I add it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not clear on what you mean. Any logged in WordPress.com user can click the “follow” link on their Admin bar and follow your blog in the WordPress.com Reader.
You can set up email subscriptions by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts see here >

You can customize the contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedbacks as spam from your dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

Note: As a spammer prevention you are limited to sending out 10 invitations at one point in time. -
on some other blogs I have seen a big black “Follow” button in the upper right side of their home page. When signed into my wordpress account, I can click that button on their blog page and it says “you are now following ” My own blog button is a VIA email button, which I don’t want. I just want my wordpress potential followers to be able to see a button that says Follow. Not via email. Some blogs do not have a visible follow button and I have no idea how to follow their blog without it. I don’t want that to happen on my blog…

O have been here for over 7 years answering questions and have never seen such a button as you describe on any free hosted WordPress.com blog. However, that being said anyone can create any image they wish (big black button or otherwise), link it to their blog URL and display it in a text widget at the top of their sidebar.
