Follow Button
-
Include a Follow button on my blog that does not require the prospective Follower to have a WordPress account, merely an email address. Have not yet been able to find instructions on how to make this happen and would appreciate any help available.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello,
If visitors do not have a WordPress.com account, they can follow your blog with the Follow button that appears in the lower right-hand corner of WordPress.com. When clicked, it will prompt them to enter their email address.
Visitors can also sign up to receive your posts via email using the Follow Blog Widget.
Hope this is what you are looking for.

Hi, thank you. That does answer part of it. The other is whether the site has to be ‘Public’ for that to work (non WordPress members)? Or can we set our site back to ‘Private’ and still have non-members follow when they get an invite from us?
thanks

Yes, your blog would need to be public in order for visitors to access those.
If your blog is private, nobody will be able to follow it unless you specifically invite them, at which point they become a Viewer. Here is a summary of the Viewer role on WordPress.com:
Viewers are users who can only view private sites. Like Followers, Viewers do not have any editing privileges. All they can do is simply read the private site they were invited to and leave comments on it (again, only if you’ve enabled them).
Note: If someone is a Follower of your public site, and then you set that site to private, they do not automatically become a Viewer. Viewers must always be specifically invited. Viewers must also sign up to follow a private site if they would like to receive updates each time you publish a new post.
You can learn more about inviting Viewers (and other roles) in this documentation: https://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
