Follow button in Free plan

I’m using the free plan and creating a new website, and it appears that in order to use the Follow button from the widgets someone would need to have a WP account? Does this go away and become more user-friendly only with the Business plan? I also have an old blog set up many years ago that has a simple Follow button, with no signing up needed and want to replicate it.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Without knowing what you’re using on your old blog, it is probably not a WordPress.com follow button. If you can share that site URL, we can confirm. :)

Our follow button requires a WordPress.com account to follow because they would be following you here through the WordPress.com Reader. It would be like trying to follow someone on Facebook without having a Facebook account – it wouldn’t work.

We do have a second way for someone to follow your blog – the Email Subscription Block. This allows someone to sign up using their email and they would receive email notifications whenever you made a new post. Is that what you were using on your old blog?

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any questions.
