Follow Button issues
-
Hello,
I’m using the Sidekick theme and apparently the built in “follow” button doesn’t appear on certain devices. Is there any way to fix that?
I tried adding a “follow” widget as well, but that doesn’t work for some reason either.
Any thoughts of how I can get a “follow” button to consistantly show up on the site will be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
Chris
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. I see your theme doesn’t have any widgets, which is why you can’t add it the follow widget. See: https://wordpress.com/themes/sidekick/
Anyone who’s logged in to WordPress should see the admin bar with a follow link there, no matter their device. When they won’t see this is if they’re logged out.
For logged out users, you can add a follow button under Settings ->Reading in the classic dashboard (http://sanghashinshu.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) You can find that option under Follower Settings.

Kokkieh,
Thanks for your helpful reply! The follow button for non-wordpress (or logged out) users is the one that doesn’t appear on certain devices. It’s enabled, and appears on ipads and computers, but not on certain phones.
Any thoughts?

Could you perhaps be more specific about the types of phones? Is it specific brands or operating systems? Or specific models across the board?
-
Also which mobile browsers? It could be that the button’s code is incompatible with a specific browser – this happens on computer browsers as well.
-
Kokkieh, thank you for your message and sorry for the long delay replying. It’s happening on phones in Japan, so it seems like your “incompatibility with the browser” idea is likely the issue. Thanks again for your ideas.

I had a quick look on my phone and in both Chrome and Opera for Android, as well as the native Android browser, and I see none of them are showing the button, so it would seem the mobile version of the site doesn’t include it. I’m going to tag this for staff, in case there’s something we’re both missing.
Another option you can look at, that I forgot about the other day, is the Blog Subscription shortcode. That one works on posts and pages, so you can create a new page and add the shortcode to allow people to subscribe that way. It’s not as elegant as a button, but will at least give you this functionality. https://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/

Just to update in case you’re still wondering: that follow button apparently doesn’t appear on phones. This is how it is designed. See the staff reply here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/follow-button-for-mobile-users?replies=6#post-2318108

Kokkieh,
Thank you so much for your kind help with this. At least I know the situation now. Folks will need to just do the long-way-around, I guess.
Thanks again for your help.

Hello,
We are using The Bold News theme. A user has asked if it is possible to place the Word Press “follow us” button more conveniently as it looks cut in the middle of the screen (right hand side). I have not activated it as a widget. Therefore, I would like to know if I can do something about it via the dashboard.
Thank you!

Are you speaking of the button that only shows to logged out users? I’m not sure if it will be possible to move that, as I think that button is part of the core program, and not specifically of the theme. If it’s possible this type of change can only be made by editing the theme’s CSS and you’ll need the custom design upgrade to do that.
I suggest you first post in your theme’s dedicated support forum where you can find out directly from the theme designer what’s possible and what not in this regard. I’m afraid we can’t give in-depth help with premium themes in the general forum: http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/bold-news
For help editing the theme’s CSS, you can post directly in the CSS Customization forum: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
See here for more info on the custom design upgrade:
