Follow button on Cubic Theme – white font
-
I’m using the Cubic theme (https://travelpictorium.wordpress.com/)and when you click on the follow button that pops up in the bottom right-hand corner, any text typed into the email address box isn’t visible because the font is white on a white background. Is there a way of changing this so the user will see black font?
Many thanks
WendyThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Wendy,
I was able to duplicate the result you report. The issue can be avoided by choosing either the default palette, or one of the four optional palettes with white background, at Customize > Colors & Backgrounds > Background > Palette.
However, I think this might be rightfully considered a bug, or a design flaw, so I’ve called for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here ASAP.

Hi Wendy, could you post a screenshot of the colour palette in your Customizer that you were using when you saw this effect so I can get the issue reported? Right now I’m seeing white text on a black background, which is readable with your palette:
Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or GIF – in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

The box for inserting an email address only appears if you’re not yet a WordPress.com member, or are logged out. I switched to another browser to view and test it. It’s white on white, just as described in the OP. Any text you enter into the box will not be visible unless you highlight it.
However, it still functions as if the text were visible. You can use it to prompt a “Sign Me Up” email message.

musicdoc1 – yep! My test was done while logged out – please see my screenshot.
Could you please let me know what browser you’re using where you see the white on white text, and pop a screenshot here? Thanks!

It’s the Action bar follow button, not the Follow Blog Widget one in the sidebar widget area.
-
Ah, the action bar, not the widget – thank you! I see the issue now and will report it. We’ll keep everyone updated here.

Hi, excuse delay. Thanks for replies. I’m using a black background – which I love for photos – and I chose Cubic deliberately for that palette! I’ve added that screenshot (Capture 1) to my media library, Kathryn.
I’ve tried on Edge, Firefox and Chrome and always get white on white text when I type an address in.
Thanks for the help, I’ll admit I’m fairly clueless with this so please excuse any stupid questions!

No worries, Wendy – I understand the issue now, and have reported it to our developers. We’ll let you know when it’s been fixed up!

Hi Kathryn
I was wondering if there was any word on this issue?
No worries if not yet
Thanks,
Wendy -
Hi there – nope, we’ll let you know here when it’s been fixed, there’s no need to check in. :)

Howdy!
Thanks for bringing this bug to our attention. We’ve made a fix to your theme, Cubic, and your Follow form field should display properly now.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,

Hello! I am using Cubic with the same issue. Since you indicated it has been fixed, is there something I need to do on my end to resolve the issue? When I test my site I still have white letters on the white background on the Follow widget. My site is desertislandletters.com. Thanks! Emily

Hi @emily2013, I just looked at your site, and the follow button in the lower right hand corner is fully visible to me. If you are still not seeing the text within the follow panel when you click on it, can you try clearing your browser cache and let me know if that helps?
-
Hi thesacredpath! Thanks for helping. I have cleared three different browsers cache and still no luck. Let’s make sure we are on the same page. The widget that shows Follow with the three dots is visible. When you click on Follow and the widget expands with the button that says “Sign Me up”, this is where my issue is. The field that you enter your e-mail address has a white background. And when you enter your e-mail address to sign up, the text is white so you can’t see what you are typing. Is the text font color in this field inherited from my Title? My Title has a white font. Thanks again!

Many thanks for the clarification. This is what I see when I go to your site while not logged in: https://cldup.com/GmHLl2TWEq.png. I entered the email.address text in the field and it came in black in Chrome.
Which browser are you seeing the white text in?
-
I’m using the Firefox browser, and my site is desertislandletters.com. I’ve checked Internet Explorer and it’s the same thing, with the white text in the white box.
Really appreciate all your help with this! -
@emily2013, I’m on FF 55.0.3 on Mac, and that is where the screenshot I have given above was taken. I’ve double checked on the site you referenced, and I see the text there. I also asked one of my collegues with Windows to check, and In FF, IE and Edge, they see the text in the follow button like I see it in Mac. You can try the following custom CSS, but given this seems an issue with your system, I don’t think it is going to work.
div#actionbar .actnbr-notice .actnbr-message { color: #2e4453 !important; }I do have some suggestions though, starting with a question.
Question: Are you by chance viewing the site from a computer at work, or behind some sort of corporate firewall?
Suggestion 1: If the above is true, can you try viewing the site on a Windows computer that is not on that network or associated with the business/corporation? Perhaps the computer of a friend or family member?
Suggestion 2: Log out of WordPress.com and clear your browser caches on both FF and IE and then close the browsers and shut down your computer and then start it back up and take another look.
Suggestion 3: Disable any and all extensions/plugins you may have installed in your browsers, including any adblocking software.

Thanks very much – this is now resolved for me, I’m seeing black font in the follow box.
Cheers to all
Wendy
