Follow button on lower bottom corner

    I have read through some articles and it seems that there is a function to remove the follow button in wordpress.com – still, i could not find under settings and area called read and some screenshots/links point to different versions of WordPress.

    I am frustrated as I really want this follow button/ribbon to be removed.

  • Hi There,
    There is no way to remove the follow button completely to all users but there are a couple of options for you.

    First, you can remove the Follow Button for users that are logged out, so unless someone is logged into their WordPress account it would not show up for them. I think that is the setting you were looking into. You have to add a /wp-admin to the end of your site and then go to Settings – Reading and scroll down to the Followers Settings. You would then have the option to uncheck the box by ” Show follow button to logged out users.”

    Secondly, another option would be site visibility. You have the option to change the visibility and privacy of your site. Here is a support page that can give you more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

    You can also choose to add people to your site so that only certain people can view it, etc. Here is a great support page that can provide you with more information on this:

    Hope this helps!
    Thanks

    Hi, many thanks – I have reviewed all these support sites already and found the information rather poor. It just tells you, that you can disable the action bar for non-logged in users but it does not fully remove the action bar at the bottom of the page.

    I have finally (after hours of reseach) found a solution which might provide help to others by simply adding the following code lines to the css (edit template only in paid version).

    #actionbar {
    display: none;
    }

    This fully removed the action bar at the bottom of the page.

  • That is great that you found a solution! Thanks for sharing! I made a note of it in case I see this again in the forums! Thanks

    Hi jenlynnemc

    It looks like the ‘show follow button to logged out users’ option has been removed. Is this the case? Is there any way to remove the follow button without using CSS now?

    Many thanks,

    Graeme

    Hi, I could not find any other solution which would fully remove the follow button for logged out users. Adding the code line to the css would also just work in the premium edition of wordpress.com.

    I personally have cancelled by wordpress.com account and now use wordpress.org with an external supplier – by far cheaper and easier in terms of adjusting these little things. I could change that at wordpress.org in less time I spent for the research on wordpress.com. – still great if you need a simple page without any need for adjustment.
