  Does the follow button alert people only for posts? Does it alert them for pages too? Thank you.

  Only Posts. Pages do not have RSS Feeds and are intended to be used for content that rarely changes.

  You can enable follow for your pages in the following way:

  When you publish a page, share that update in a post, by posting the link in the post. As the post update reaches your followers, they can get the link easily and know you published a page.

  Otherwise, what ‘thistimethisspace’ said is correct.
