Follow Button Thought/Suggestion

aloha creative WP and New Things in the works people

    regarding the new Follow Button:

i didnt read all the comments so may be this thought has been addressed…

    i like the idea.

what i think i’d like even more is if the entire button – background and contrasting word – could be transparent/translucent.

that way what ever it sits on will slightly show through and the colors or patterns of the blog will remain visible. that way too it feels like it is part of the blog rather than a pop-up on top of it that may be unrelated…

it stands out a lot right now (imo). i’m not sure it has to stand out that much. once i know about it, i’d like it to be easy not to notice, yet there when i want it.

initially i think a transparent/translucent button would catch the eye but then be easy not to see, knowing it is there when you want it.

…just a thought. thanks for all you do at WP. aloha

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I agree with you Rick, but only partly. If anyone with visual difficulties were to try to read the text on a transparent/translucent button and against a patterned background or one in which the text is the same colour as the blog’s background – it would be impossible for them! So maybe the option to have the admin bar opaque or translucent.

Anyway, I’m not sure it’s even a ‘button’ as such, it’s part of the admin bar, isn’t it? So the whole bar would have to be made transparent/translucent.

I’m visually challenged and I agree.

In case your haven’t located the details on the follow button. They are found in this announcement.

I don’t really like how it says something like “Join ___(whatever the number of subscribers you have!) other subscribers”. It is a bit embarrassing! And I think it could turn people away from following when they see how “un-popular” your blog is!

If you go here . Appearance > Widgets and open the Blog subscription widgte there is a checkbox you can uncheck for the numbers of subscribers are not displayed. Also note that if you use the search utility here in the forum you will find there is rarely ever a question posted here that has not been asked and answered many times. :) In addition the searchbox in the support documentation is great as it provides results form both the support docs and from the forum threads. :)

@ absurdoldbird and timethief – good point, thanks. yeah, I wouldn’t want readability to be a problem.

@ timethief – yeah, I saw that post, thank you. I had seen the button before I saw the post. so I’d already had my thoughts on it. in fact I started to post my thoughts there, then realized that wasn’t the place to do that and came here. thanks for pointing me to it tho. I think readability is more important too.

    aloha

i get your point but lets keep color in the picture even though it may be see through
and the like color generates thought…

I am trying to get rid of the ‘Join ‘number’ other followers’ text in the follow button. I followed timethiefs advice above with the ‘Appearance > Widgets and open the Blog subscription widget’ but it just gets rid of this text in the sidebar widget and not the button
