Follow Button vs Blog Subscription Widget
-
Is the small blue WP follow button that you can add to your blog the same as the Jetpack blog subscription widget where you would have to enter your email? If not, what’s the difference and which one is better to have on your website?

Hi there,
They are a little different in that it is not possible to “follow” a site unless you have a WordPress.com account.
To “subscribe” to a site as you find in the Jetpack widget is a bit more flexible, as it means you do not have to have a WordPress.com account to follow the site. You can just provide a standard email address, and that will allow someone to follow your site via email.
By the way, we have a subscription widget on WordPress.com sites that is very similar to the one included on Jetpack sites: https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
The name is different, but the widget itself is very similar, and will allow anyone to add an email address to follow your site.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
