Follow button widget

I’m busy creating a test site, but I’m confused by the Follow Button added as a widget.

Under WP Adming / Settings / Reading, near the bottom of the page, is ‘Follower Settings’ with two suggested email follow-up texts: ‘Blog follow email texts’ and ‘Comment follow email texts’.

I don’t understand the difference between the two, and neither of those texts appeared in my email when I tested the follow button by clicking it. I received an email saying, “Congratulations. You are now subscribed …”, not “Howdy. …”

Can somebody please explain how to use the follow button and whether changing the text in the Reading page will alter the text in the confirmation email people receive. I don’t want them to receive a ‘howdy’ email.

    Thanks
    Kitta

I have exactly the same problem. I cant see what a new visitor would see not the site so I dont really know what’s going on. I know I have a follow button underneath my main site photo and one at the end of the ‘about’ section. when I look at the stats it says I only have 12 WordPress followers and 3 email followers – presumably because they clicked different ‘follow’ buttons.
However a friend told me when they clicked the ‘follow’ button it says ‘Congratulations – yor are now joining 242 other followers’ – so how many people will actually get an email the next time I publish a post – what actually is my follower figure? can anyone tell me what is going on?

To experience your site like a visitor would simply log out, clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then visit the site without logging in.
