Follow comments on private posts and pages

  Hello forum,

  is there a way to allow following comments on private posts and pages?

  In the WP settings of my blogs, I allowed commenters to subscribe to new comments.

  It generally works – the option appears at the bottom my posts and paged. However, this does not work on private posts or pages. This is very inconvenient as we have a password-protected intranet (password-protected page), where it would be desirable to follow up on what other people with access to it have to say.

  This seems not to be a theme-related issue since I tried it with twentythirteen as well as the sorbet theme.

  Ok, found this link, https://en.support.wordpress.com/following-comments/, stating

  Note if you have set a post’s visibility to Private or Password Protected, the “follow comments” option is always disabled and will not appear on the post.

  I think this is not a good idea.

  If I choose to share a private post with other authors of my site I want us to be able to follow up on whatever we wanted to share privately.
