Follow Functionality

A follower of the site no longer gets emails. I checked the list of email followers (138 of them), and the follower’s email address is not in that list. However, when I try to Invite the follower, I get a message “Already following”. What’s going on and how do I fix it?

  • Hi –

Please advise the user to add a comment on this thread so we can take a look at their account.

It’s possible they’ve marked you as spam in their email client, or you’re getting caught in a filter.

Your account is currently blocking all subscription emails from WordPress.com – we can’t send you subscription emails for any site on WordPress.com. You can change this setting from this page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/notifications/subscriptions/

Our logs show this setting was changed automatically about ten months ago. This happens if we detect a high number of emails to your address being flagged as spam – in that case our system automatically changes this setting to prevent further emails from us from being marked as spam, which could get us blacklisted with the email provider.

If you did not mark these emails as spam, it means your email provider is doing it automatically. In that case, I recommend adding our donotreply email address from which the subscription emails come to your email contacts, and if your email provider has a whitelist or “Safe Senders” option, please list our email address there as well. If you don’t do this, and our emails to you again start getting returned as spam, that setting will just be changed again.

  • Also please make sure your email address appearing at https://wordpress.com/me/account/ is still correct.
