  I’m trying to add a “follow me on twitter” button to my blog. I find WP’s instructions on the subject incomprehensible: http://en.support.wordpress.com/twitter-follow-button/. Here’s what I can’t understand:

  1. Why doesn’t a twitter button show up when I put in the code recommended by WP, with my twitter account added in the account name space?

  2. It looks like the code I added creates link to my twitter account, so the user can see my twitter profile information. But does that mean the user is “following” me on twitter?

  3. I’ve connected my blog to twitter through “Sharing”: does that mean anyone who follows me on twitter will automatically be notified of a new blog post?

  1. I’m sorry but I find the instructions to be very clear and had no trouble following them at all. I clicked your Twitter button on your blog and it’s working fine so I’m not clear on how to help you or indeed on what you need help with.

  2. Yes that’s what happens. We click the button and login to Twitter and we are following you. I did that to be sure it was working and now I will unfollow you.

  3. Sharing buttons are for your visitors to use to share your posts with others. When you publish a post your followers will receive a Tweet.

  OK, I think I’m getting this. What I can’t really tell is what happens when I publish a post. Does that automatically send out a tweet? I’d also like to know if it automatically sends something to Facebook (which I also put in my sharing system).

  You can post a Facebook badge in your sidebar. http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-badge/

  You can use the Facebook like box widget for fan pages > Appearance > Widgets

  You can also enable sharing buttons on your posts, pages and index pages.
  Also note the “like” button. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/

  You can have Facebook like & share buttons on your posts.

  You can set up Publicize and publish to your Facebook profile page > http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/

  Alternatively you can use Networked Blogs http://www.networkedblogs.com/ or RSS Grafitti http://www.facebook.com/RSS.Graffiti for posting to Facebook walls if you prefer.
