follow pinterest button
-
I have tried adding a follow pinterest button on my sidebar…it works…but is not a button, just a word. What did I do wrong? Would like the pinterest button to show.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use any widget that has pure HTML but you cannot use any widgets that contain restricted codes like iframes or JavaScript widgets.
In the case of Pinterest, you cannot use the Pin-it Javascript code on a WordPress.com blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
But you can put the code for the Pinterest follow button in a text widget.
1. Go to this site, choose which one of the red Follow Me images you want, and copy the code for it. http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/2. Then, go to your widgets > Appearance > Widgets and select a text widget.http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
3. Paste the Pinterest follow button code into the text widget, “save” the widget, “close” the widget and place it where you want it to display in your sidebar.

I saw these directions several days ago and followed them and got the pinterest word I have now. What did I do wrong? I have deleted the widget and tried again, but get the same thing? What do I do now?

When I followed these directions I copied the copy…but there is a second part that says to add this script…do I do this? Where do I put it?

Hello, thanks especially to timethief who has repeatedly answered these questions about placing a follow-on-pinterest button on the sidebar.
But I am having the same problem and timethief, your instructions do not address this. I have followed these instructions but it is not happening.
It seems like some part of the code that pinterest is supplying is forbidden by wordpress because it deletes each time I “save”. Thus, I don’t have a button I have simply a text link.
(Certainly the second set of code that pinterest provides is javascript and not allowed, but I’m not even sure where I was supposed to have put this second code).
Any further suggestions anyone? I’m pretty hopeless but can see I’m not the only one challenged by this :-)
Cheers and thanks heaps in advance!

Hi kellywernex, I thought you might be interested to know my cheat method of getting something that looks like a button, since we can’t use the code to create a real follow-me pinterest button:
I generated a preview of what I want the button to look like here:
http://business.pinterest.com/widget-builder/#do_follow_me_button
and then I took a screen shot of that button and saved it.Then I uploaded this image as a jpeg onto my wordpress media library and then added it as an image (with a link to my pinterest page) using the instructions here:
http://business.pinterest.com/widget-builder/#do_follow_me_buttonI think it’s a bit fuzzy (I saved as high-res as possible?) but is it better than nothing?
Cheers :-)
