Follow Pop up
-
Hi I have started a new blog, http://www.simplygrainfree.com and there is this follow this blog pop-up, I would like to get rid of it. You can minimize it but it is always present. I have looked at all the settings but can’t seem to turn it off. On an Ipad it’s very annoying, Is there are way to turn it off? I have another blog I started a long time ago and it’s not on that. My theme is Twenty Ten, my son has the same theme on his blog that he has had for a while so I assume this is a relative new thing. Appreciate any help, thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you referring to the Follow link the admin bar? If so, that can’t be removed.
If you’re referring to the subscription section in the sidebar, that can be removed via Appearance -> Widgets.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve already been to widget area as you suggested. The only thing that is in my widget area is email subscriptions which I put there. Nothing else at this stage.
I am referring to a pop up that is down the bottom of the screen on a PC which can be made smaller. On an Ipad it doesn’t shrink so gets in the way. It says “Follow” on a tap on the right hand side of this box that pops up. The box then say” Follow this Blog, Get every new post on this blog delivered to your inbox etc”. It says “this service is provided by WordPress.com.” As I said I don’t want that there, so how do I get rid of it.
Thanks

I’m unable to find what you’re referring to, even on my iPad.
Would you please take a screenshot and upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard?

Hi macmanx, there is a chance I have a cashed version on my Ipad, as it’s not showing on another computer we have here now. I will check on a friends computer and get back to you.
Thanks heaps for replying,

Hi: My blogsite is http://www.ikenewton.wordpress.com
The same thing is happening on mine as well and I can’t get rid of it. It appears at the bottom of the screen.
I have tried a friend’s laptop and the same thing is happening. How can I disable this.
I have two other blogs and they are fine. -
I’m not able to see what you’re referring to either.
Would you please take a screenshot and upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard?

Hi, macmanx
I’ve posted some photos on my photography site of the follow pop up I’ve been talking about. This is showing up on every PC I have had the chance to look at which is 3. And on my iPad.
If you click on the photos they will be enlarged.

Someone has subscribed to my blog using the follow this Blog pop up, so I don’t know if that now has something to do with why I can’ get rid of it but I couldn’t when there was no one subscribed.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I’ve been through all the descriptions of all the widgets on this page
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/akismet-widget/
and it’s none of them so i don’t think it is a widget.

Ah-ha, now I see it! I was expecting it to be a bit more prominent. This is actually something that we’re testing in a limited capacity. There’s no way to remove it, but we will consider it if we decide to continue using it.
I’m still not seeing it on my iPad though. Are you saying that it automatically expands on the iPad?

Hi Macmanx
Yes … this is the same pop us as I’m getting so this answers my question as well.
Personally I think it makes the page look just a bit messy or unbalanced. I’m not sure if it really is needed as there is a subscription widget anyway generally.
On the other hand I guess that it may help to raise the profile of a site.http://www.ikenewton.wordpress.com

Yes stays expanded as you see it, if I click on the little arrow to shrink it like you can on a PC it just moves it up and down the Ipad page, takes up too much room on an Ipad.
I agree with Kris it makes the page, especially on an Ipad look messy, and as pointed out there is a subscription widget that I have used and looks much tidier and as the blog owner it gives me control over what I want it to say.
Another point is I now have subscribers that have subscribed via the subscription widget I put there and on the follow thing you guys put there, so my subscribers aren’t all together in one place I have to click between email subscriber and WordPress subscribers to see who has subscribed.
At home we have big monitor’s for someone with a 19″ or smaller one again it would take up too much room
So pretty please take it off.
Thanks for all your help macmanx

Hi Macmanx
I also just uploaded a screenshot as requested. The only difference is that one bit is on the bottom right and the rest is on the bottom left which also looks a bit weird.
So I certainly agree with simplygrainfree.

A bit more feedback for you, I’ve added some more widgets to my blog and on the iPad the follow this blog pop up thing covers all the widgets I’ve added so they can’t be seen by people visiting my site on an iPad. You say you are “testing it in limited capacity” does that mean it’s only going on selected themes or blogs? Any chance my blog can be taken of the ones you are testing it on :).
Thanks

Not really, it’s not that it’s only on a few blogs, but that it only shows at random times.

@simplygrainfree and @loftus1: The button can now be removed:
