In the old widget, one text appeared for those who had not subscribed, a different one for those who did subscribe. … So my question still remains, how can I return to the “two different texts for the two different kinds of visitors” widget?

I’m sorry I did not understand you the first go round. I thought you could still do this?

WordPress.com message – Enter a message to display to WordPress.com users. This will only be displayed when the user is logged in. The user will see this message followed by a subscription button.

Non-WordPress.com message – Enter a message to display to non-WordPress.com users. This will only be displayed when the user is not logged in to WordPress.com. The user will see this message followed by an email field and subscription button.

Thanks for the confirmation that you can still enter two greetings into the blog subscription widget on your blogs.

Timethief, yes, I had the two message areas, one for WordPress users and one for non-WordPressers (those poor people!) just as you displayed above. Since I never entered a different text for subscribers, I assumed that was built into the program. And as it turns out, the “You are following this blog (manage)” text is displaying today, so the issue is resolved. Thanks to whoever did whatever. :-D
